This past Sunday I invited and challenged the congregation to read the Bible on a daily basis through the season of Advent. It was in light of a reading from 2 Kings where they discover/re-discover what we think was the book (or a portion of the book) of Deuteronomy. What you need to know is that rediscovery changed the life of King Josiah, and so it changed the lives of his people.
What would happen to you if you were to read scripture every day? Don’t worry about having to know all the technical details of it. Just see if this daily habit of reading scripture will actually connect God’s story and your story. Does it matter to your life? Some days, quite frankly, it will be tough to draw a connecting line. Other days it may seem like it’s taking notes on your actual life.

Young Adults in Global Mission

These 2 are called Chelsey and Nate Crary. They’re kind of a big deal. They lived in Palestine last year through a program of the ELCA called Young Adults in Global Mission or YAGM. That’s lots of initials in one sentence. For more about the ELCA click here. For more about YAGM click here.
Anyway, they came back to the states and got jobs in the school district here in Hutchinson and have been part of River of Hope. It was due time for them to share their experiences with River of Hope and so they did just that this last Sunday. They gave us a brief history lesson of the area, which is pretty hard to do. They did it. Then they simply told us stories of life there through the people they met and lived with, through students they worked with, and through their daily lives. It broke my heart wide open in that painful and even beautiful way that Good News can.

Road trip!

The new ELCA church that is starting in Montrose has its first official worship service on Sunday, September 28! Many of you remember how it felt to have people from ELCA churches in the area show up. Let’s show up for House of Grace! We can meet at the Event Center at 4pm that day to figure out carpools and then hit the road for the 5:30 worship service in a Methodist church. (Sound familiar to any of you?)

Get ‘yer Bible Sunday! (Sept. 28)

We’re going to hand out and bless Bibles and their readers like crazy THIS Sunday, September 28. Thanks to the over $800 brought in with brunch last Sunday (thank you!), these Bibles will be given to kids of all ages.
The next few Sundays you’ll have the opportunity to mark them up! Underline your favorite verse, write an encouraging note or prayer and sign your name. There is a reason we gather in community!
Help us be sure we’ve got one for your kid. Comment below or contact the office. Or Facebook, too.
Newly minted 7th graders will get the Lutheran Study Bible. Lots of cool study notes and writings. Plus the small catechism is in here too.
3rd-6th graders will love this Spark Bible. Study notes and good questions.
4 year olds through 2nd grade will learn the classics with this great story Bible.
