Scriptures:
1 Corinthians 13:1-13
This week we will hear a story that Jesus tells about God’s house in heaven. He is telling this story right before he has to leave his best friends. He doesn’t want them to worry, so he tells this story.

Activities
Activity: 1st Corinthians 13 Mobile
Materials needed
- PDF template of hearts
- scissors
- yarn, string, or jute twine
- glue or tape
Instructions
- Cut out the hearts from the template (cut them out yourself, or have the kids cut them out with safety scissors to practice their scissor skills).
- Tape or glue 3 pieces of string to the back of the big “LOVE” heart. The piece of string in the center can be slightly shorter than the 2 on the sides.
- Tape or glue each of the smaller hearts onto the strings. There are enough hearts to place 4 hearts on each side string and 3 hearts in the center, if you want a symmetrical mobile.
WE GO OUT
- Love MobileMake an extra mobile using the template from the River of Hope, Faith at Home web page. Leave on the doorstep of someone you know who would like a reminder of God’s love!
Volunteer to help at the food shelf – families continue to be in need of food in Hutchinson and surrounding communities. Find time this week to help those who live daily with food insecurity.

Find one or two that you haven’t done from a past week.
WE GO OUT family activities from past weeks:
Spring Flowers –
- Make tissue paper flowers and attach a message of love to the “stem”. (Something like, “Jesus Loves You” or, “You are a loved child of God”)
- Leave the flowers in places where people might find it – you might want to write another note that says … “If you see me, take me home to brighten your day!”
Mother’s Day all week
- Think of one or two women in your life who have “mothered” you. Send them a card thanking them for the love they have shown you!
Prayer Chalk “Go Out” Activity
From the Lesson on Sunday, May 3 Paul prayed “I always give thanks to God for you because…”
Surprise someone by writing a prayer of thanksgiving about them with chalk on their sidewalk or driveway using the phrase from Sunday’s story, making sure to complete the sentence with something about them.
Spring Clean up
- Choose one of your family’s favorite outdoor spots.
- Bring trash bags and gloves and pick up whatever trash you find in that area
- Before you leave, make a chalk drawing or chalk prayer for the next visitors to know that God loves them just as they are!
Living out Matthew 25
- In Matthew 25 Jesus tells us that when we help other people who are hungry or lonely or cold or hurting in any way, we are helping Jesus!
- This week we are helping people who are unable to get their own groceries by picking them up for them through the Hutchinson food shelf. Go to https://mcleodemergencyfoodshelf.org/ and follow the instructions for proxy pick-up intake.

Tent Making: We are all called to tell about Jesus. Click here for the table tent making activity! It can be any size, any shape. You can each make a tent, or you can make one tent together as a family. There are no rules around how you make your tents – be creative! Send pictures of your tents to River of Hope! We would love to post them on our Faith at Home web page!
Practice Peacemaking: The church at Corinth was divided over the different teachings they had heard. Sometimes, as a family, we are divided in our opinions too! We are going to do an exercise that points out some of our differences. Then we will practice showing how the love of Christ can bring us back together. Church at Thessalonica

Acts 17:1-9
After Paul and Silas had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews. 2 And Paul went in, as was his custom, and on three sabbath days argued with them from the scriptures, 3 explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Messiah to suffer and to rise from the dead, and saying, “This is the Messiah, Jesus whom I am proclaiming to you.” 4 Some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a great many of the devout Greeks and not a few of the leading women. 5 But the Jews became jealous, and with the help of some ruffians in the marketplaces they formed a mob and set the city in an uproar. While they were searching for Paul and Silas to bring them out to the assembly, they attacked Jason’s house. 6 When they could not find them, they dragged Jason and some believers before the city authorities, shouting, “These people who have been turning the world upside down have come here also, 7 and Jason has entertained them as guests. They are all acting contrary to the decrees of the emperor, saying that there is another king named Jesus.” 8 The people and the city officials were disturbed when they heard this, 9 and after they had taken bail from Jason and the others, they let them go.

Mark 16:1-8
When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. 2 And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. 3 They had been saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” 4 When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back. 5 As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. 6 But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you.” 8 So they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

Holy Week Journey Candle Ritual:
Set up 5 candles. Maybe you want to put other symbols of Holy Week with the candles. Each day, you will light one less candle, and on Friday, you will “shroud” (cover) the candles. Maybe you want to do this during a meal time or before bed, or some other regular time of the day.
Sunday April 5
● Worship: Remember to tune on to Facebook Live at 10:30 and join River of Hope for worship!
● Family Devotion:
○ Light all 5 candles and discuss the word Hosanna!

○ Take time to create your own Alleluia ribbon wands to use on Easter Sunday.

● Prayer: Pray that God would show us how we can “go out” and love our neighbor today, even when we are safe at home.

○ As you prayed for God to show you ways to “go out”, find an opportunity to do one of those today!
● Prayer: Pray for all of the staff at hospitals and clinics – doctors, nurses, food service staff, custodial staff, security, IT staff, and others. Thank God for their willingness to serve others who need medical care today.
Wednesday April 8

● Prayer: Pray for those who are food insecure tonight – whether because they do not have enough money or a way to get to the grocery store. Pray for ways to share from our abundance with those who have little.

○ After listening, journal or discuss with others one thing that stood out to you from this familiar story.
○ There is a movie version of the Gospel of Matthew. You can literally sit down with your Bible and follow along from verse 1, chapter 1 right through to chapter to Chapter 28:20. The movie was recorded using the NIV version. You could take a lot of time and watch the entire story – or fast forward to the section on the last supper. Both are available on YouTube.

○ Family Movie Night! Watch The Prince of Egypt together to have a deeper understanding of the Passover. When Jesus sat down to supper with his friends, it was to eat the Passover meal. Prayer: Pray for opportunities to follow the new command of Jesus – to love one another!
Good Friday April 10

○ There is a really old, CLASSIC movie called The Robe on Amazon. It takes a different look at the crucifixion , from the perspective of the Centurion who won Jesus’ robe in a roll of the dice. It’s available on Amazon to rent for $3.99.
○ Watch Mel Gibson’s “The Passion” on Prime. It is really… REAL. If you haven’t seen it, the movie is subtitled in English as the actors speak Aramaic – the language that Jesus spoke. It is really graphic as it tells the story of what happens with crucifixion
- Remember that empty Easter Egg you collected last week? Fill it ½ way with dried beans, popcorn, or rice to make your own Alleluia egg! When we gather together on Sunday to celebrate the empty tomb, we will shake our eggs in joy!
● Prayer: Pray for a deeper understanding of suffering; the suffering that Jesus chose on our behalf and the suffering that others experience and do not choose. Ask for a heart of compassion and opportunities to relieve the suffering of others.
